Art with Kids

One of my passions is helping kids keep their creativity alive. I believe it is vital for kids to have adults around them who value their own creativity. When a child or teen sees an adult consciously investing in the development of their own artistic skill and creative development, that young person is more likely to be able to visualize their own creativity as something important.

Arts in April at Mt. Hall Elementary

The last couple weeks I had the privilege of leading a collaborative project with the students at Mt. Hall Elementary, as part of their Arts in April program. Some of the funds from the yearly Mt. Hall auction were designated to provide supplies for Arts in April, as Mt. Hall does not have a regular art program. A fantastic week of contagious creativity!

CHALK the BLOCK 2023 | Kootenai River Days Well over 100 people participated in this four day event, from toddlers to grandparents and everything in-between. It was such a popular event that appealed to all ages and skill levels. Lots of people picked up a piece of chalk and drew a simple happy face or cheerful message. Art with Kids

Last week I took some time to create art with kids. I volunteered one afternoon at the elementary school and expanded on a previous lesson I taught based on Kandinsky's "Color Study Squares." We did another loosely-structured abstract project, and this time we used paint instead of pastels. When the kids saw the paints and brushes, they exclaimed, "ooh, do we really get to paint!?"
